Winter skin survival

My skin is more reliable than Punxsutawney Phil or Wiarton willie at predicting the coming spring. Every February my skin decides to predict the coming Spring by drying out. It takes effort to make my skin survive the winter.

Why winter dries your skin out

The combination of cold air, windy conditions and dry heat removes moisture from your skin. The result dry, less elastic, skin.

Our star performers to the rescue

In fighting this winter battle we have some star warrior ingredients that help support moisture retention and skin elasticity.

  • Our Massage and Body oil is the first line of defence with avocado, grapeseed, and jojoba oils to help nourish dry skin and soften rough texture Combined with squalene it is a powerhouse in supporting the skin barrier and sealing in hydration. It’s not just for winter I use this as my base skin care routine year-round.
  • Our Body butters add a little extra hydration and moisturization. From Cocoa to shea or our Triple butter they are rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, which are great for keeping skin supple and comfortable in cold weather. They are also great for targeting those elbows,  knees ad heals.
  • If you like a lighter touch then our lotions, provide a light fragrant finish with humectants like glycerine and aloe to pull water into the skin, while the shea and cocoa butters help with longer-lasting comfort.

Together, Massage and Body Oil, with lotion or butter, shine bright to help prevent dryness and keep your skin feeling silky soft instead of itchy and dry.

How to prevent dryness (everyday habits)

You don’t need a complicated routine—just a few smart habits done consistently:

  • Have a cool or warm and a handmade soap to retain more of your natural skin oils. Plus, handmade soap has naturally occurring glycerine which helps draw moisture to the skin.
  • Lock in that post shower moisture, apply lotion or body oil after a shower to trap the water that’s already on your skin. It also helps your product last longer as a little will go a long way.
  • Layer your moisture by starting with a lighter lotion, then lock it in with add a richer body butter or body oil. You can target drier areas but I go for the full body effect.
  • The winter heat in housing needs the help of a humidifier to prevent dryness. Remember to use distilled water in your humidifier.

Your skin is your largest organ it deserved to be enveloped in moisture and softness.
